I had a busy couple of days that has extended into a busy week and a half without really getting to draw something really fun. Prepping the basement for my studio move on top of commercial work has been keeping things pretty busy. So I had a brief moment to do some stuff for myself recently. I got some sketching in the sketchbook but decided to do this piece just for kicks. I’ve really gotten into picking up old Charlton Comics while at conventions. Just beat up worn out copies on the cheap. One of my favorites has been The Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves. Dr. Graves was a post Comics Code Authority version of Tales From The Crypt. While not a ground breaking series by any means, Steve Ditko did a lot of stories over the seventy five issue run of the book. If you ever just want to read some fun short story comics from a different time, this book is for you.
1. Here’s the inks. I wish I had played up the ghosts in the shadows a little more. I went freehand on them with the inks. I think it could have looked a little better.
2. Color Version 1- While I think this piece works without any manipulation effects, I wanted to play with the background a little more cause those darn ghosts were still bugging me.
3. Final Version- I liked the version the most. I think the halftone pattern calls back on the vintage aspect of the character while it still looks like something new. Overall a fun piece to do. Next one will have creepier and cooler ghosts.
