Ran in my first 5K this weekend. Finished at about 36-37 minutes, so roughly a 12 minute mile which was required from me in gym class in school.
I hate running, but I hate my weight more , so I figured I’d give this a shot. It’s hard to look at it with a sense of achievement when there were 7 people dressed as a caterpillar (who I beat, thank god). It was fun and I think I’ll do it again…someday.
Been very busy with freelance but the light at the end of the tunnel is there. commissions have been in heavy demand.
Read some good books this past month. Trying to read more “grown up” books as oppose to comics (got a lot of those to read as well though). If you get a chance, I suggest reading I Love You, Beth Cooper by Larry Doyle. It hits every cliche you’ve every seen in any teen movie, but it works and Doyle’s writing is probably the funnest thing I’ve read in a long time.
I also read Catch, by Will Leitch. This also is a story about the journey of a teenager. I didn’t plan on reading both at the same time. They were just both available at the library and I couldn’t find anything else I wanted at the time. This story takes place in a small town in Illinois so I of course got sucked in, being from a small town in Illinois myself. It was good, Leitch has gone on to write some other books I’m anxious to read and also created the Deadspin website which I’m a big fan of.
Finally, another great review for Astronaut Dad, complements of Micheal May at the Newsarama blog. Micheal is a local guy and it’s always great to see him at the local shows.

Congrats. You should celebrate by eating a whole Dairy Queen cake and washing it down with a 5th of Bacardi. Just a suggestion.
